Google Ads Verification Process

25 Jan 2022
by: John Stoneman

Since 2020 Google has been gradually introducing a verification process for businesses that use their Google Ad services. Their reason for doing this is to ensure a safe and trustworthy ad experience for people who use Google Ads.

The timing of this new verification process was in response to the rise in scams and false information at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This new verification is process is now being rolled out to Australian businesses who use Google Ads.

1. What Information do you need to supply to Google?

The information you need to supply to Google will vary depending on the type of business you have as well as it’s structure. However, the information required will include the legal name and the legal address for the business. This includes:

For businesses:

  • Certificate of Incorporation or Registration
  • DUNS certificate
  • Australian Business Number (ABN).

For individuals:

  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • Photo ID Card

2. What happens if you don't supply the information requested by Google?

If you do not submit documentation within 30 days of Google requesting them, your Google Ads account will be paused. This means you will not be able to advertise on Google.

3. What information does Google disclose?

The name of your business and it’s location will appear in a disclosure accessible directly from your Google Ads. People searching on your ad will have to click to find this information.
