Google My Business is one of the best tools a small business can utilise. It is a particularly effective tool for local businesses looking for more customers. Even better, it is a free tool!

To get the most of Google My Business, here are some tips to get you started:

1. Claim your listing

Before you can do anything with your Google My Business account you must first claim it. Once you have done this, you need to make sure that all your business details are correct. This includes your business name, address, phone number, and business category. Also, especially if you have a store front, up to date hours that you are open are essential for you to list.

2. Post photos and videos

It is estimated that you can increase the chances of people clicking onto your website by nearly 50% just by showing good quality photos and videos. If you are selling products you should have examples of what you are selling. An example would be if you are jeweller to show photos of some of the jewellery you sell. Alternatively, if you are selling a service you should show photos of your work. An example would be a builder showing a recently completed home or renovation.

To get the most of Google My Business you need to continuously upload photos or videos on a regular basis, rather than doing it once and then forgetting about it.

3. Get reviews and post replies

Although it can be time consuming to get your clients to leave reviews it is well worth the effort. This is because it is estimated that around 90% of people are influenced by the reviews they read. Furthermore, it is one of the key ranking factors Google uses when ranking businesses.

To make the most of reviews you receive, you should also take the time to respond to each one.

4. Post promotions

Not that many people know that you can even post promotions on your Google My Business account. It is a great way to get new customers by offering a discount. You can even specify how long the discount applies and direct them to your website for more information.
