Google Grants for Non-Profit Organisations

08 Feb 2015
by: Angela

A lot of people, one way or another, are connected to a non-profit organisation – whether as an employee, volunteer, consumer, or donor. But did you know that Google has a Grants programme that allows up to $10,000 of free Google AdWords each month? – that is over $1 million dollars per year! Is your non-profit organisation making use of this very generous Google grants offer?

Although it may seem too good to be true, Google Grants will give you the power to reach out to donors, volunteers and consumers when they are using the Google search engine – to an extent that most not-for-profit organisations would not be able to afford. Reaching out on the internet is incredibly important as studies show that 76% of donors said that they go online to research a non-profit organisation before deciding whether to make a donation.

Who can apply?

If an organisation is not a government organisation and is an ‘income tax exempt non-profit organisation’ as defined by the Australian Charities and Non-Profits Commission and / or the Australian Taxation Office then they are eligible to apply for the grant. Additionally, the organisation cannot be a hospital or medical group, school, childcare centre, academic institution or university. Dynamic Websites can register your organisation on your behalf along with setting up your Google Grants AdWords campaign.

Are there any limitations?

There are a few limitations to Google Grants. These include $2.00 maximum cost per click (as of 28 January 2013) and your ad will be shown below paying Google AdWords advertisers.

How is a Google Grants AdWords Campaign Managed?

It is very important that your Google Grants AdWords campaign is managed carefully as it can be paused or cancelled by Google if it is not. For example, your ads must reflect the mission of your non-profit organisation and the keywords used must be relevant to its programmes and services. Dynamic Websites meets with all its non-profit organisations to make sure the keywords used in the Google Grants AdWords campaign match its mission, as well as the programmes and services it offers.

In addition, commercial advertising (ie the promotion of services and products) is not allowed unless 100% of the proceeds support the programmes offered by the non-profit organisation.
