How to Increase the Number of People Visiting your Website

23 May 2019
by: Angela

Quite often people think they only need to build a website for their business and customers will flock to it. Unfortunately it is not that easy. Take the example of a plumbing business – if you type in plumber melbourne you will get 33,400,000 results.

It is unrealistic to expect customers will be able to find your plumbing business website with over 33 million search results. This is especially true if your website is new. So what can be done so that your website can be found easily?

The following are 5 tips that will get people to your website:

increase visitors to your website

1. Google Ads

If you want visitors to your website quickly then this is the best option.  However, you need to be careful and have a targeted campaign or the amount you spend on Google Ads will quickly spiral out of control with very little return.

You need to remember it is not how many people who click onto your website that is important. What is important is the number of conversions you get. This is the number of people who either email or click to call you directly from your website.

It is always best to start off your campaign slowly and build it up over several months to help keep costs under control.

2. Create Great Content

This way of getting people to your website is often overlooked. This is because it can take a lot of time to write engaging content. However, if you think about it, there is no point in spending money in getting people to your website if they are only disappointed and click away quickly because they cannot find the information they are looking for.

It doesn’t matter what business you are in, you can always create great content. For example, if you are a fencer you could dedicate a page to the different types of picket fences people can choose from. This way, people can find out more about different types of picket fences. They will also be able to make a quicker and more informed decision about the type of fence they want – and you will position yourself as an expert in your field.

3.Write a blog

Blog writing is one of the easiest ways to get customers back to your website time and time again. It freshens up your website and lets everyone know that you are very much in business and that you are an expert who is up to date with the changes in your industry. The best way to write a regular blog is to sit down and plan blog topics for the next 6 months or so – that way you won’t be scratching around for a topic each time a new blog is due.

4. Leverage your blogs

It takes time to write blogs so make sure they get the most exposure as possible.  Just putting the blog onto your website will only have a limited impact on the number of visitors to your website (especially in the short term). You should be posting your blogs on your social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter etc. You should also email your blog to your contact list. It is a great way to remind your customers and potential customers about you and what you sell without being too intrusive. You should also consider writing blogs for other websites – this is an excellent way to illustrate just how much of an expert you are and get a backlink to your website. For example, if you are a debt collection agency you could provide tips on managing cash flow for websites that are designed to help small business.

5. Make sure your website is fast

One of the easiest ways to get and keep people on your website is to make the load time fast. Even a load time of more than a few seconds can cause people to leave your website in frustration.

There are lots of things you can do to speed up your website. This includes optimising all the images on your website. Another way to increase the speed of your website is to enable caching. This means not all of a website page needs to be downloaded when it is revisited. In fact there are lots of technical things that can be done to increase the speed of your website.
