More Google Core Web Vitals & SEO
It is important that if you want to do well for SEO, that your website performs well on all of Google’s Core Web Vitals. Google core web vitals are a set of technical performance criteria to help optimise the speed, interactivity and stability of your website.
Following on from our previous blog, here are another 3 core web vitals that are important if you want your website to climb up those SEO rankings and stay there:
a. Security
When a website has a prefix of https (rather than http) it means it is a safe website. Google has actively encouraged websites to be secure for quite a while now.
In fact, if a website is not secure, Google often provides a warning not to visit the website due to the risk associated with of going to a non secure website. It has been particularly important for online shops to have secure websites due to their processing payments.
Fortunately, it is easy to secure your website by purchasing a SSL certificate, but you should also make sure all your software is up to date and consider installing security software to protect against hackers.
b. Mobile friendly websites
Google has a Mobile First Policy. This means your website needs to perform well on mobile phones. It is no longer good enough to perform well on desktop computers if you want your website to do well for SEO. In fact, just having a website that is mobile responsive, rather than mobile friendly is not good for SEO. For example, a website that scales images and texts for mobile phones is considered mobile responsive. However, if the speed at which the images are uploaded is slow, then it is not considered mobile friendly by Google. The result is that your website will not perform as well for SEO as it could do.
c. Limit the use of pop ups
Pop ups on websites are a great way to get user interaction on your website. For example, if your goal is to collect email addresses then offering a free e-book is a popular way to do this. However, Google, particularly on mobile phones, doesn’t like it when pop-ups effectively take over a website. This is because an user is not able to easily click the pop up away. This means you need to be careful when the website is designed that your pop ups don’t become too intrusive.
